Let’s Pray! – We will pray as a church for these three things each day this month.

Pray for our local, state, and national leaders that we will become more united in the right things.

Pray for our students in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college, that many would accept Jesus as Savior.

Thank God for the new year and the opportunities for this year.

Youth Church will NOT be meeting in the month of January. It will resume on Sunday, February 9, 2024.

Financial Statements for the Year 2024 are ready! The team will start dispersing them this Sunday, January 12th before, and after the worship service.

The EverBless Foundation has scholarships. Since New Zion is a BGAV Church, our members can apply. The website is EverBless.org/scholarships

Evening Bible Study will continue our study with Week 11: Reversal: Consummated, Celebrated, and Concluded, Esther chapters 9-10 on January 15, 2025. Sessions will be held on-site and via ZOOM at 7:30-8:30 P.M.

The next session for Daytime Adult Bible Study, a basic Bible Study, will be the fourth Wednesday of the month, January 22, 2025, at 12:00 PM. The session will be onsite only. Rev. Shirley Smith is the contact.

PLEASE DONATE! We need plastic bags to make PLARN, which is plastic yarn, to make water and bug resistant mats for those in need. Every bag donation brings us one step closer to making a difference in someone’s life. Donations can be dropped off and placed inside the white recycling bin in the vestibule. If you want to volunteer, or want more information, contact Brother Ernest Gallien.

The next PLARN class will be Saturday, January 18, 2025, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM in South Campus 2. Anyone interested in learning how to make and assemble PLARN are welcome. The contacts are Brother Ernest Gallien and Sister Tina Gallien.

NZBC Winter Coat Drive: Thank you New Zion for your generous donations of new and gently used jackets and coats.

Save the Date! The 2025 Black History Quiz Bowl will be on February 22, 2025, and March 1, 2025. NZBC is looking for team members, ages 11-17 years old and volunteers to help the team prepare for the quiz bowl. The points of contact are Bro. T.J. Conyers and Sis. LaTonya Conyers.

The Community of Faith Mission (COFM) is once again sponsoring the Faith-Based emergency Shelter Program that serves those experiencing homelessness in the Greater Williamsburg Community during the coldest months of the year commences on November 10th through March 16th, 2025. New Zion will be partnering with Smith Memorial Baptist Church in March, from the 11th until the 13th to serve in this program. The NZBC Winter Shelter Program Committee, Deacon Diane Fuller, Sister Marian Shearin and Deacon Charmaine Wallace encourages, and welcomes, your participation as a volunteer! A sign-up sheet is available on the bulletin board.

Sentara 3D Mammography Van at NZBC

Sentara Healthcare and New Zion Baptist Church are collaborating to provide health screenings and education to the church and the community. Sentara’s 3D Mobile Mammography will be on site to provide mammograms. This event will be at New Zion Baptist Church on Saturday, April 27th beginning at 11:00 AM. The mobile unit is designed for comfort, with private dressing rooms, central air/heating and a platform step for safer entry.

Requirements

If you are over the age of 40, a physician's referral is not required for an annual screening mammogram. You will, however, be asked to provide your primary care physician's contact information.

Insurance is billed for patients who have coverage. Care is provided to patients who are uninsured on a prorated basis.

If any of the following apply to you, please make your mammogram appointment at a facility and not a van:

  • A serious breast problem, such as a lump, thickening, bloody discharge from the nipple, recent inverted nipple, "orange peel" texture to the skin, redness or discoloration of the breast, or any other recent changes

  • Under the age of 35

  • Personal history of breast cancer

  • First mammogram after breast biopsy, surgery or reconstruction

  • Follow-up mammogram less than 12 months after your most recent normal mammogram

NZBC will host their 12th Annual Harvest Feast, “Share of a Blessing”. The event will take place on Wednesday, November 22nd, 11:00 AM-2:00 PM, first come/first serve until boxes run out.

This event is a Grab-N- Box Lunch ONLY (Turkey Sandwich, Chips, Apple, Cookie, Bottled Water, Mustard & Mayo). Drive Through Parking Lot Pick-Up -1-4 boxes per vehicle.

Summer Topical Bible Study - Every Wednesday

Summer Topical Sessions for 2023 will begin Wednesday, June 7th. Sessions will be held each Wednesday from June to September, 7:30-8:30 PM, with the exception of July 26th and August 16th (reserved for New Quarter and New Zion Annual Revivals). Our regular Bible study will resume September 6th. June sessions are as follows:

-June 14th: Temple Builders Fitness, Mr. Cliff Barnett

-June 21st: Spiritual Gifts, Part 1, Rev. Shirley Smith

-June 28th: Spiritual Gifts, Part 2, Rev. Shirley Smith

Community Easter Egg Hunt

A community Easter egg hunt will occur on Saturday, April 8th, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at New Zion Baptist Church, 3991 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185.

There will be an egg hunt, games, prizes, and food catered by Corey’s Southern Catering. This event is FREE and for ages 0-13 years old. Please bring a basket.

We also will partner with The Prescription Shoppe to dispose of unused or expired medications. Items that WILL NOT be accepted are:

Needles
Inhalers
Testing Supplies such as Lancets
Any liquids over 4 ounces.

There has been a change to New Zion’s shelter dates; they are now Tuesday, January 31st and Wednesday, February 1st. The New Zion shelter team is partnering with Smith Memorial Baptist Church to shelter our homeless neighbors from the cold of winter. We are still in need of volunteers.
